The Greatest Role Model For A Servant Heart

God has given us the greatest role model for a servant heart – Jesus. First of all, we need to understand the reason why God sent Jesus. James and John had been followers of Jesus and given up their fishing life. They figured that since they had been pretty loyal, Jesus would favor them. Mark 10:35 “Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.” But Jesus’ response wasn’t what they expected. Mark 10:45. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Sometimes when we serve we have ulterior motives. Maybe we want a special place on the team or to be hired on the next entertainment project or we want our own project to be made or we just plain want to be in control. There is a difference between sharing the project we are working on in community groups we are involved in and seeing what grows organically in those relationships versus showing up and just asking people to volunteer on our project, fund it or loan us what we need. All of those things might come in time as relationships grow. But as we grow in relationship with Jesus we realize that being a Christian in entertainment is not about what others can do for me. We don’t just have a relationship with Jesus so that we can benefit and get what we want. The type of service Jesus is encouraging us to live out is one of really serving others, so they benefit.
The servant’s heart means to help others out of love and without expecting something from them in return, serving in appreciation of what God has done for us. Christ shows and tells us to sacrificially serve others and God with humility, love, and compassion. Christ is our Servant King, our role model of what it means to have a servant heart. What would happen if we showed up on the projects we are involved in with a servant heart?
